Two race meetings will be held this weekend at the Marsa racetrack, the first today starting at 7pm and then on Sunday at 2pm. Eight trot races are comprised in each meeting all of which are over the 2,140m distance.

The Cassar Petroleum Championship Premier class semi-finals dominate proceedings, with a semi-final in each meeting, each comprising 12 horses.

The horses in today’s semi-final include Sette Giugno Cup winner Zilver Boko, former Prix de Vincennes winners Mont Cenis Honey and Joker de Choisel, former Summer Championship winner Major Chaleonnais, heats winners Celebrity Photo and Maximal Value and six other exciting trotters.

Sunday’s semi-final includes multiple championship winners Think Yatzee and Livi Cantona, VOB Cup winner Label Chouan, heat runners-up Troy Boshoeve and Sultan November and other top-class participants.

Sunday’s programme also includes an interesting Premier class race with various popular horses some of which, such as Nabab du Chatelet, Nono de Crouay, Oros de Reve and others, are making their return to racing after the summer break. Danish trotter Mars is registered to debut in this race.

The remaining races will consist of heats for the Cassar Petroleum Condition Races for the other classes. As was the case last week, with two qualifiers from each heat (three in the Copper class), these races will certainly be extremely hard-fought and are likely to produce uncertain finishes.

Two Swedish and one French trotter are scheduled to make their debut in the Gold class.

Now that we are well into October and with cooler weather, one can note a good increase in the number of participating horses, including various exciting new imports.
