Angela Adamoli Named new women’s national team coach

The Malta Basketball Association has selected Angela Adamoli (photo) is the new national team senior women’s coach for the coming years.

Following a story of success by Santino Coppa, who led the women’s team for the last 10 years and winning four gold medals (2 in GSSE and 2 in FIBA competitions) and two bronze, the MBA chose a person who has excellent qualities as a coach and will work well with to achieve the best results possible.

Adamoli was born in 1972 and started her playing career at the age of nine. Between 1984 and 1988 she won the cadettes league twice and twice second placed. In season 1987-88 at the age of 16 she made it to Serie A and kept on playing until the age of 32. During these 16 years in the Italian Top Level she won various leagues, a European Champions Cup, Ronchetti Cup, Coppa Italia and a lot more.

She represented Italy 94 times, winning silver in 1993, gold in 1995 (Fukuoka) and silver in the European Championships. She ended her career with the national team in 1999.

In season 2004-05 she started her coaching career with Guidinia in Serie B d’Eccelenza and got her coaching licence in September 2005.

From 2006 to date she coached various levels in the Italian league including Serie A1 and A2. At present she is the head coach for the Lazio azzurini,  Head coach Serie B, Head coach Italian national team (Universities) and won the a gold medal in Serbia this summer.

She was also one of the technical staff Italian national team U20 during last summer’s European Championships in Hungary.

The Malta Basketball Association thanked Profs Santino Coppa for his sterling services and the successes he brought to women’s basketball in the last years.
