The finals of the Malta Open Championships will be held today at the Marsa Sports Club.
The finals will get underway at 3pm, with the Women’s Singles event, and this will be followed by the Men’s Singles event.
Elaine Genovese will be defending her title against Rosanne Dimech, in what promises to be an enthralling match. Both players had earlier this year represented Malta in the Fed Cup 2012 held in Egypt.
In the men’s event, Malta champion Matthew Asciak, will be facing Raphael Sammut. At 16, Raphael will be playing his first Men’s Open final.
The Men’s doubles was played on Friday with Matthew Asciak /Bradley Callus beating Marco Cappello/Raphael Sammut in the final 6-0 6-2.
If the rainy weather persists during the time of the matches, then the two games will be played in the brand new indoor courts at the Marsa Sports Club, which still have to be officially inaugurated.
The Malta Open Championships are organised by the Marsa Sports Club and sponsored by Gatorade. The tournament is held under the auspices of the Malta Tennis Federation and the general public is invited to attend.
