Gzira U 1
Dingli S 2
This keen and balanced game was decided by three goals in the dying minutes of the game.
Both sides had their very good moments but shots at goal were very scarce as both defences closed all possible gaps to the opposing forwards. Following this game Dingli occupy second spot on eight points from four games while Gzira are still pointless from same number of games.
Gzira created the first action when Isaac Falzon served Vincenzo Costa in the area and Dingli keeper Noel Micallef foiled him with a timely sortie.
The reaction by Dingli was immediate as they mounted three actions. Andre Cauchi served Dylan Camenzuli in the area and after Gzira keeper Jean C Agius partly saved his shot the ball was cleared away. In another action by the same players the ball missed the upright with Agius beaten from Camenzuli's hard grounder and Kyle Gatt was fouled in midfield and the ball was cleared away from the free kick by Ryan Vella.
Another two actions were then created by Gzira. Jean P Vella released Lydin Camilleri on the left flank who then crossed to Falzon but he missed the upright fom inside the area and Costa was fouled on the right flank and after Falzon floated a perfect high ball in the area, Vella drove over the bar.
Dingli then created all the actions up to the half time whistle. Gzira remained dangerous after the restart. Kirsten Mamo served Camilleri with a through ball who then served Daniel Galea on the right falnk who after advancing drove out from the edge of the area. Mamo served Dylan Scibeeras with a square pass who drove out from outside the area and Juan C Mangani released Costa in the area and he drove over the bar with only Micallef to beat.
In an action by Dingli Andre' Cauchi served Camenzuli with a cross in the area and Agius saved his header, while at the other end, Mangani served Camilleri with a through ball and Micallef saved his effort from outside the area with a diving save.
Gzira then won a corner kick on the left flank which was well-taken by Falzon and Costa headed out from inside the area, and in another action by Dingli Matthew Borg served Fabian Azzopardi with a through ball who then released Tristan Galea on the left flank and Agius denied him with a diving save.
In the last minute of normal time Dingli opened the score when Borg dribbled past a defender on the right flank and served Camenzuli with a through ball who returned the compliment to Galea in the area who scored with a hard low drive, and in the first minute of added time they doubled their lead as Camenzuli received the ball from a long drop kick by Micallef and as Agius came out of his charge to foil him he entered the area and rolled the ball into an empty net.
Gzira reduced the gap in the fourth minute of added time when they won a free kick on the left flank and Mamo floated a high ball in the area which was deflected into the net by a Dingli defender.
