McDonald's Malta organises successful clean up event

Malta Independent Thursday, 25 October 2012, 15:36 Last update: about 11 years ago

As part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility activities, McDonald’s Malta employees took an active role in their annual Clean Up The World campaign when over 120 staff members, their spouses and children gave up their free time last Saturday to clean up the area around the Pembroke coast. The clean-up extended along the shore from the Pembroke Athleta sports facilities up to the Pembroke reverse osmosis plant.

"The area in Pembroke offers some spectacular Maltese Countryside and this experience was very rewarding to all of us who helped out during the clean up. It was a particularly good experience for the children who were involved. We hope that our small contribution serves as an example to encourage people to leave the place clean when going out and enjoying the environment. McDonald’s restaurants are by nature, sociable places, linked to local community life, thus we feel that it is within our duties to protect the environment and ensure the safeguarding of Malta’s natural beauty," said Natasha Giorgio, Marketing Manager of McDonald’s Malta.

As part of McDonald’s social responsibility, the development of environmental programs is an ongoing process. In fact in recent years, McDonald’s Malta has introduced different initiatives in favour of the environment. Two major steps stones in this program include the recycling of its used cooking oil into bio-diesel fuel and the collecting of outer cardboard and plastic form all 8 restaurants, which is then passed on to Green Pak for recycling.
