Local rock crawling fun on a smaller scale

Malta Independent Tuesday, 30 October 2012, 15:28 Last update: about 11 years ago

Malta RC Crawlers is a small group of RC Crawling enthusiasts that formed a couple of years ago with the intention of centralising the local RC crawling scene into organized events.  For the third year running they are overseeing a RC Crawling Championship for 1:10 scale 2.2 RC Crawlers, based on eight monthly events, following international rules and regulations.  Events are held in various locations, on some of Malta’s hardest rocky terrain. RC Crawlers carefully negotiate difficult rock formations and try to surmount obstacles whilst  gaining the least amount of penalty points possible.

Competitors are divided into two separate classes: ‘Standard Class’ and ‘Dig Class’. ‘Dig Class’ crawlers have a feature in the drive train that allows the driver to engage the front or rear axle, while the other axle is locked or left to freewheel.  Dig is used to negotiate tight turns and avoid reverse penalties.  The club has also plans for future events for 1:9 scale crawlers, which are the equivalent in miniature of real life 1:1 4x4 vehicles, with complete bodies and scale detailing.

The 2012/13 Malta RC Crawling Championship has started its first event on the 13th October 2012.  Anyone wishing to join our group can contact us on our facebook page - Malta RC Crawlers.
