“Following the success of last year’s nine day marathon for L-Istrina mill-Qalb campaign 2011, the Cavalieri Hotel in St Julian’s will once again be hosting a programme of 24 events throughout November where all proceeds collected from these event will go towards this year’s edition of l-Istrina. The events, which will be held at the Cavallieri Hotel as well as various other locations in Malta, will kick off on Friday, 16th November with an evening reception and come to an end on Friday, 3oth November 2012 with a live performance by Zoo Entertainment at the Attard Parish Auditorium.” This was announced by Mark Camilleri, General Manager of the Cavalieri Hotel during the official launch of the programme of events, which was presided by Mrs. Margaret Abela, Deputy Chairperson of The Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF).

Mrs Abela thanked the management and staff of the Cavalieri Hotel for taking such an initiative. She said that it is encouraging for the Malta Community Chest Fund, who at this time of the year will be caught up in organising a multitude of activities to raise funds for Malta’s largest philanthropic event, to see companies such as the Cavallieri Hotel to take the initiative to organise their own events in collaboration with the MCCF.

Mr. Camilleri said that “The organisation of this marathon is part of the Cavalieri Hotel management and staff’s commitment to support the L-Istrina mill-Qalb 2012 campaign and contribute to this very worthy cause aimed alleviating some of the hardships being faced by members of the Maltese community. We would like to thank all the personalities, entertainers and organisers who believed in this cause and are giving up their time free of charge to organise this programme of events. These include, Zoo Entertainment, personalities and live bands without whose support we could not have organised such a diverse programme of events.”

Mr Camillieri added that “in preparing this year’s programme we have done our utmost to select different activities which would appeal to a diverse audience and age groups. The 24 events which are spread over a two week period include, football, swimming, tug of war, open bus tour, wine and beer festival, cocktail competitions, live bands, pets walk followed by animal blessing, cycling and a live performance by Zoo Entertainment. The marathon is open to all families in Malta and Gozo who can choose to participate in one of more events. The funds will be raised through a participation fee, the proceeds of which will be passed on to the Malta Community Chest Fund and will be added to the total funds of L-istrina mill-Qalb 2012.”

The launch was followed by a preview of some of the activities that will take place during this fund raising event.
