ZARA celebrates in 10th anniversary in Malta

Malta Independent Sunday, 11 November 2012, 11:26 Last update: about 11 years ago

November 2012 is a special month for PG Holdings Limited, the franchisees of the Zara brand in Malta, as it marks 10 continuous years since the world-famous brand was brought to Malta.

Zara garments first opened its doors in Malta in November 2002 and has successfully retailed male, female and children’s fashionable wear ever since from the Alhambra Complex, located on the Sliema Promenade.

Zara home franchise, which offers a wide selection of bed, table and bathroom linen, as well as cutlery, glassware and decorative items, was introduced to Malta in 2008.

The Zara brand belongs to the Spanish firm Inditex which is the world’s biggest clothes retailer and which registered a net profit figure of €1.932 billion last year.

The Zara presence is spread across all five continents, more often than not, occupying some of the most prestigious commercial sites available.  Inditex also has an on-line presence in many other countries, including Japan and China.

The brain child of the Spanish Entrepreneur Amancio Ortega, Inditex was started in the 1960’s, from very humble origins.  The basic business model, however, has remained very much the same –processes which ensure fast – to market, quality fashion wear at affordable prices.

Paul Gauci, Owner of PG Holdings Limited and who is the franchisee of Zara in Malta, was very much inspired by Amancio Ortega’s business philosophy.

“He runs a very flat organisation at the same time as remaining in close contact with client, employee and product,” Mr Gauci remarked.
