When I was a young student, I attended astronomy classes organised at Stella Maris College. I used to gaze through the large telescopes at the night sky and was amazed by the vision of so many stars, so many wonderful and colourful patterns.

As I grew up, I distanced myself from the subject, and continued my studies at Stella Maris College sixth form and later at De La Salle Hopwood Hall. As I walked through the various corridors of my early academic life, I came across many Brothers who taught in Malta and England. I can only imagine how many students the Brothers positively influenced with their shining values of love, faith, dedication and loyalty in their lifetime… The never-ending story they started with the setting-up of two of the best educational institutions on the island. De La Salle and Stella Maris have produced some of Malta’s best academics, politicians, athletes and professionals in many shapes and sizes. Incidentally, looking at the university staff line up one immediately sees an endless list of old Stelmarians and Lasallians.

Now, as I look around me, I realise that many of the Brothers are no longer with us, but have found their place among the infinite stars in heaven with the saints and chorus of angels giving glory to God. No wonder the night skies are brighter. I think I shall return to the hobby of my youth and start gazing upwards and enjoy the visions of these celestial companions who gave their life to the many youngsters who were educated at La Salle colleges.

In memory of the first anniversary of Brother Dominic Rosso who passed away to eternal life on 11th November last year; a Brother with a vision and immense determination, a walking powerhouse of knowledge and fortitude. He was a man of God and a powerful witness of God’s love for man; a prayerful man, a faithful companion of John Baptist De La Salle, who tried to live Christ’s values of love and compassion through all his works; a man for others, a great teacher and a pioneer.

I hope and pray that his spirit will continue to move us towards Mary and her son Jesus, to whom he was eternally devoted.
