It is over one year ago I had brought to the attention to the Local Council, St Paul’s Bay and Minister Austin Gatt, and Transport Malta the situation of a treacherous pedestrian crossing in Triq San Pawl, in St Paul’s Bay, a few meters further up from the Police Station.

Subsequent to various reminders to the Local Council and Officers of Transport Malta nothing has been done to solve this issue. Whereas it is a burden on parents and school children having to use this pedestrian crossing at a riskiest point, thank God that there was not an accident yet but there were many a near miss.

Why is it that Transport Malta is dragging its feet to grant permission to the SPB Local Council, who is in a straight jacket to act for the benefit of the Residents that use this crossing?

I quote Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, who on 10 November 2012: ‘thanked councillors for their work to improve their localities for the benefit of residents’.

Are the Local Councils given the right to exercise their will towards the need of the residents, since there is agreement at council level to move this pedestrian crossing? Why do we have to wait forever for things to happen?

Let’s have more action rather than words.
