All the way up from Malta to North Cape (Norway) and back for charity

Malta Independent Wednesday, 21 November 2012, 10:46 Last update: about 11 years ago

Joe Vella and Philip Chircop are two motorcycle enthusiasts who met for the first time in September 2011 in Livorno, and then they met again last May in Sicily. In the meantime they had never met in Malta.

Philip talked to Joe about his intention of doing something for charity that incorporated motorcycles completing a very challenging event. Joe was immediately interested when he heard the words ‘charity’ and ‘challenging’ but not having known Philip for long he was slightly  apprehensive yet later decided to go for it anyway and approached Philip to discuss plans. The idea was to raise funds for persons with disabilities, to give something, help someone, and maybe make life a little bit easier not only for the individuals but also for their respective families. All of this without expecting nothing in return and to exploit this adventure for a good cause. Taking the final decision was never going to be easy, thirty days is a long time away from their families and a long time off from work too but with some difficulties all planning hurdles were overcome.

The destination is Norway’s North Cape, inside the Arctic Circle. They will be riding all the way from Malta and back, a total distance of 5,422 km each way that also includes three ferry crossings. Along the way ten motorcycle clubs are expecting to meet them, five in Italy, two in Germany, and one each once in Belgium, Sweden and Finland. Some of these clubs will also be covering this journey in their local media.

The trip starts on the 14 July 2013 and they should return on the 15 August 2013. It will definitely be a very long and tiring journey, spanning thirty days. They will also be camping all the way mostly to save both time and money. This adventure would not be possible without the full support of their families and close friends who will also have an important role to play in ensuring its success.
