Actavis Ltd, has placed second in the National OHSA Good Practice Awards held during the European Week for Safety and Health at Work. These Awards form part of the 2012 – 2013 European Healthy Workplaces Campaign which this year is focused on ‘Working together for Risk Prevention’. This is not the first time Actavis has participated in such an award, placing 1st in 2008, 2nd in 2010 and being awarded the European Good Practice Award in 2011.

Commenting on this award, Actavis Limited, Managing Director, Patrick Cachia said that “It is only with the commitment of management and the active participation of all employees that Actavis can attain such positive results at a national level.  The contribution and constant effort by key personnel such as Risk Assessors, Internal EHS Auditors, H&S Representatives and First Aiders is critical to the achievement of these excellent results.  There is always more to be done in Health and Safety but this award is a great acknowledgment of all the hard work that has already been done at Actavis to improve employees’ safety and the company’s performance.”

Actavis Ltd.  presented a case study based on the reduction of the LWD accident rate over a 5 year period.  This reduction in accident rate was achieved through the implementation of different EHS Initiatives that merged management commitment with employee participation.  Some of the key initiatives presented were Risk Assessments, Near Miss Reporting, Audits and Inspections, H&S committee amongst others.

The aim of the European Good practice award is to make all employers and workers aware of the benefits derived from good safety and health practices to control risk at work. Companies or organisations were able to participate by forwarding their good practices at work to the OHSA.
