The Premier League continues with four more matches between today and tomorrow with today’s programme being played at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium.
In today’s matches, Hibernians face Qormi in the opening match, while Valletta take on Mosta in the second clash.
Tomorrow, at the Hibs Stadium, Sliema first come up against Tarxien. In the second match it will be Hamrun Spartans-Floriana.
Today’s programme sees the return to the national stadium which is now in good shape after the re-seeding process. The matches involve two of the top three teams, that is, Hibernians and Valletta.
Hibernians seem to be recovering after a shaky patch in which they lost a considerable number of points. Now, with Valletta slipping in almost every match, they have crept back into contention and are only one point adrift of the leaders.
Today, the Paolites take on Qormi and once again, they will have to be at their best to overcome this obstacle as Qormi are bubbling with enthusiasm after collecting a good seven points from a possible nine in their last three outings.
In the second match, Valletta will be trying hard to regain their confidence by beating Mosta.
The champions seem to have forgotten how to win a match having drawn their last four matches with a similar 1-1 scoreline.
Mark Miller’s boys must be aware that they will have to be at their very best to overcome Mosta this afternoon.
The Blues, in fact, are also in a mini-crisis of their own after having lost their last two encounters, albeit narrowly, to Birkirkara and Hibernians.
Mosta are aware that they need to get back on the winning track to maintain their exalted position for the Top Six berth in the second phase of the championship.
Tomorrow, in the first match, Sliema will also be aiming to return to winning form after their 2-0 defeat at the hands of their old rivals Floriana last week.
But against Tarxien, it will also be a tricky outing. The Rainbows surprised everyone last week as they held Valletta to a one-all draw. Now they are looking forward for a better second round to consolidate their current challenge for a Top Six berth.
In the second match, both Hamrun and Floriana will be eyeing the points in their quest to move further up the table.
They both have the same aim – that of trying to avoid the Relegation Pool. But to do that, they have to get points sooner than later.
The Spartans have lost their last three matches and need a win badly, but the Greens managed to halt a negative trend last week by beating Sliema. They now hope to carry their winning form into tomorrow’s match to get closer to that sixth place, at least.
