Mdina Grand Prix 2013 preparations already off the mark

The Valletta Grand Prix Foundation is launching the Mdina Grand Prix 2013, which will be staged between 10 and 13 October, in the picturesque setting beneath the Bastions of Mdina, Malta’s Old Capital city. What started off in 2009 as a dream with an organization going into motion all in within a few weeks has now transcribed into a prestigious annual event which is becoming also internationally renowned with participants from all over Europe attending.
The 2012 event, that was spread over four days from the Mtahleb Hill Climb to a weekend of racing, has been described as another success with major coverage both locally and also by the international classic motorsport press. Enhancing the event were various local activities that continued to illustrate what Malta had to offer in terms history and culture Over the weekend, spectators were also treated to Static Car Exhibitions put up, in collaboration with the VGPF, by the Old Motors Club and various other local motoring clubs.
The Mdina Grand Prix 2013 promises to be even more spectacular, preparations are in full swing and entries for the Grand Prix and Concourse will soon be available online.
The event would not be possible without the logistical support from the Mdina Local Council, backed by the Mtarfa and Rabat Local Councils, together with the continued support and cooperation of the Malta Tourism Authority, the Malta Council for Sport, Transport Malta, the Ministry for Infrastructure, Transport and Communication, the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs and the Malta Police Force, as well as several motor sports clubs, federations and corporate sponsors.

From Monday 7 through to Thursday 10 October overseas participants will arrive in Malta, and will be entertained with cultural visits, including guided tours of Valletta, the Three Cities, and a boat tour of the Grand Harbour.
Following the fantastic success of the Concours d’Elegance last year, this glamorous event will once again be held at the Cathedral Square in Mdina on Friday 11 October.. The Island’s best classic cars will be joined by our overseas participants, and a
festive atmosphere is guaranteed, with live classical music and owners in period attire.
Morning practice will take place Saturday 12 October on the 2.2km track below the Mdina bastions. The exciting circuit includes fast straights mixed with demanding corners. Participating vehicles will be timed in the afternoon to determine their best
performances and hence the winner of the event and finally on Sunday 13 October should see a packed day, with 80 cars participating, each group having two runs in the morning, and two in the afternoon.
