EB Butterfly Children Malta raise €6,200 for DEBRA

Malta Independent Tuesday, 11 December 2012, 17:28 Last update: about 11 years ago

Children suffering from the genetic condition, Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), are known all over the world as the Butterfly Children. This is because their skin is as fragile as a butterfly’s wing

EB Butterfly Children Dinner has raised 6,200.00 Euros for leading Epidermolysis Bullosa non-profit charity organization, DEBRA.

Money raised from the dinner which took place on 10th November 2012 at InterContinental Hotel Malta, will help DEBRA continue its current work on research in the hope of finding a cure for EB.

Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a very rare genetic condition in which the skin and internal body linings blister at the slightest knock or rub, causing painful, open wounds, in severe cases even death.? Whilst considerable progress has been made in recent years in understanding EB and identifying the genes that cause the condition, there is as yet no effective treatment or a cure.

This is the first event which was held in Malta in name of DEBRA, and not the last one says Katja Dingli Bennetti. A second event is already being planned for the coming summer.

‘’ We would like to thank InterContinental Hotel Malta, all sponsor and guests who supported us in this worthy cause and made this event a successful one.

I am really pleased to know that with what we have raised we are helping DEBRA continue their research to find a cure for this cruel condition, and am already look forward to our next event.’’
