The Canadian city of Windsor will host the World Short-Course Swimming Championships in 2016.

Swimming's governing body, known as FINA, says it chose Windsor over bids from Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong and Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

FINA met in Istanbul, Turkey, ahead of the latest world event in the 25-meter pool which begins Wednesday.

The 2014 short-course worlds will be staged in Doha, Qatar.
