Customs authorities in Portugal say officials searching a cargo container in the port of Lisbon discovered 1,235 kilograms (2,700 pounds) of cocaine with an estimated street value of €56.5 million ($75 million).

The Treasury said in a statement Thursday it was the Portuguese Customs Service's biggest cocaine haul.

The statement said the drug was concealed inside barrels containing pulped fruit. The container was loaded at an Argentine port and was to be delivered to a company near Madrid.

The statement provided no further information.

Inspectors at Portuguese ports and airports have seized about 1,700 kilograms of cocaine this year.
