Bank of Valletta presented €210,000 during Wednesday’s l-Istrina, representing the money collected from the l-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank campaign which was doubled by the Bank.

The Chief Executive Officer was among the first to go on stage at Verdala Palace after the telethon kicked off at lunchtime. He presented a donation of €210,000  to H.E. President George Abela, representing the money donated by schoolchildren through the BOV l-Istrina Piggy Bank Campaign as well as money collected from shopping outlets, which was this year matched by the Bank.

Around 6,000 piggy banks were distributed to schools across Malta & Gozo as well as shopping outlets.  A number of large piggy banks, which have become synonymous with the BOV Piggy Bank Campaign, were placed in the main shopping centres to help raise more funds.

Mr Borg was accompanied on stage by a number of staff members’ children, while a sizeable contingent from BOV was also present in the audience, adding to the festive atmosphere.

This is the ninth consecutive year that BOV has joined the Malta Community Chest Fund in this nationwide campaign to help raise awareness and funds for the Istrina Campaign. 

The Bank also supports l-Istrina through Rockestra, the August Moon Ball and Tisjir mill-Qalb, as well as encouraging its staff to take part in the President’s Fun Run – with a record 890 taking part this year.

More than €73,000,000 have been presented to L-Istrina to date through the BOV L-Istrina Piggy Bank Campaign since this initiative was launched in 2004.
