Liverpool has completed the signing of striker Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea.

The 23-year-old England international is Liverpool's first signing of the January transfer window.

Sturridge is leaving Chelsea three years after moving to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City.

Liverpool are 10th in the English Premier League.

Fortuna Duesseldorf has signed Norwegian forward Mathis Bolly from Lillestroem SK.

The Bundesliga club says Bolly signed a contract until the end of June 2016. The promoted club is 13th halfway into the season.

Fortuna coach Norbert Meier says Bolly is a "very quick," versatile player.

Chelsea gained permission to hold transfer talks with striker Demba Ba after activating the release clause in his Newcastle contract as the London club sold Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool on Wednesday.

Chelsea has been looking to add the 27-year-old Ba to its strike force after seeing him score 13 goals this season to make him the English Premier League's second most prolific player.

The Senegal international is halfway through a three-year Newcastle contract but Chelsea only had to offer 7.5 million pounds ($12.2 million) to trigger a release clause.

"The club has given the player permission to speak to Chelsea FC and therefore he will not be included in the squad for tonight's game against Everton," Newcastle said in a statement.

Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt says it has sent central defender Vadim Demidov on loan to Celta Vigo until the end of the season.

The occasional Norway international played for Real Sociedad in Spain already before coming to Frankfurt at the start of this season. Demidov found it hard to earn a place in the starting 11. His contract runs through mid-2015.

Eintracht is seeking to bring back former defender Marco Russ from Wolfsburg. The Frankfurt club is in fourth place, equal on points with defending champion Borussia Dortmund, after being promoted.
