The election campaign has officially started, and the people now expect the two main political parties to explain their issues, rather than attack each other.

Both the Nationalist Party and the Labour Party have the obligation to say what they intend to do in the next five years, and how they think they will be a better government than the other side.

Both will be judged on what they have done too – the PN’s achievements and shortcomings in government, and the PL’s mudslinging and proposals when in Opposition.

Most of all, both parties are expected to present candidates who are willing to work for their country, and not for themselves. Those candidates who will work for the benefit of all stand a better chance of being elected that others who may be perceived as seeking personal ambitions.

I also hope that the media will relay informative and detailed stories about what is taking place. The media has a big role to play in the coming weeks, and I hope that it will be fair in its judgment.
