Tarxien Rainbows will be eyeing a victory against Qormi this evening to be able to move a step closer to a berth in the Top Six come the second phase.

With four matches remaining and a possible 12 points still at stake, nothing is decided yet. In fact, even their opponents today, Qormi, can still make it mathematically.

But the Yellow Blacks must be realistic. In fact, they will have to win all their remaining four matches and expect all those above them to slip – a very tall order indeed.

Today the Rainbows will start firm favourites to collect the three points which will catapult them in third place, one point ahead of Birkirkara, albeit temporarily as the Stripes will then have tomorrow’s match against Mosta in hand.

For Qormi, it is another difficult obstacle but they are aware that a point or the three of them, will certainly be a big asset for the second phase which they will probably play in the Relegation Pool.

In the second match this evening, Hamrun Spartans come up against Hibernians who will be aiming to move back to the top of the standings with a win, ahead of Valletta’s clash with Sliema Wanderers tomorrow.

The Paolites are just one point behind Valletta and they also should be able to collect the three points from this match, despite the fact that the Spartans showed signs of recovery in their last match which they won comfortably 3-1 against bottom club Rabat Ajax.

Hamrun’s new signing, Lumbilla Kandja, of France, was a great hit as he scored a great hat-trick on his debut providing the team with a lot of relief after their run of eight barren matches.

The Spartans must be aware of the task ahead of them. Against the Paolites it will be a different opponent. Last week it was bottom placed Rabat, now it is going to be second placed Hibernians. And that might make all the difference.
