Elections should be won on substance – in which case the PN should already be celebrating. But, as we can see from the polls, people do not necessarily make their choice based on a party’s substance.
This is why it is important for the country, especially its young people, to ensure that the majority see reason and objectively choose the party that has most substance and that can guarantee the best future for us all. Their choice should be the PN because it is a true provider of substance and not just of fancy talk.
The PN talks sense backed up with facts: what it has delivered, what Malta looks like now and what the people really have by way of a better life.
The Labour Party seems completely taken over by people who just want to win at all costs and care only about superficiality and not about what they are really proposing or who they really are.
The mantra of the socialists – who recently converted themselves into a middle-class modern movement – seems to be one and only one: show the electorate that the party is electable, show the nice part of the new wave while keeping the old dogs and dinosaurs in harness. Then when, and if, the election is won, Labour will be ready and willing to unleash its old dragons onto a population fooled by the sleazy methods of New Labour.
The more time that passes, the more this is evident. First it dumped Joe Grima then Anglu Farrugia and now they have sidelined Toni Abela, Leo Brincat, Alex Sciberras Trigona and a plethora of others. However, if their party wins, will these now sidelined ex-heroes agree to be deprived of power forever? The way Toni & Co. acquiesced into accepting this secondary position resembles a pact with the devil: be out of it till we are in then it will be fine to show your fangs and your utter disregard for the proper governing of the country
Enough – or more than that – has been said and uttered about the energy proposals. Actually, they sound more like wish-lists and dreams than proposals. Joseph Muscat and his team are obsessed with charts, with things they paint as do-able. They accuse anyone who pushes them for concrete proof of how they did their sums and who was behind the consultations of acting like the Gestapo and they proceed to come out with what seem like the easiest answers to keep everyone happy.
It is surely a world first that the site of an important, potentially lethal, gas storage depot has been based on a few vox pops. Yes, that is what their new know-it-all Konrad Mizzi said on TV. Vox pops, as far as I know, aren’t even considered reliable for unimportant things let alone for something as important as this. But this is Joseph Muscat’s even newer than new Labour.
That Labour is short of substance is evident on other counts. After all these years of waiting, you would have expected a few more concrete proposals – properly researched and presented, not based on flimsy, unknown sources. Flim-flam is all Labour is giving us. They are delusional and now believe their own shallowness, thinking it can actually be used as evidence for what they believe.
Because they have no proper plan, they have stuck to the energy debate. They hope to dupe enough people who are aggrieved by something the PN has done. It is a terrible fact but it is true that a number of people have been hurt by the party in power. The PN has acted wrongly at times – and for this we pledge more than a promise to make amends.
If it is re-elected, the PN will renew itself and listen more to heal wounds. But beyond a few hurt people, the people of Malta and Gozo have had a good life and have been spared the suffering that other bigger, stronger countries are enduring. This is what the PN in power has meant: good results for all of us, better opportunities, better employment openings, better wages and a better way of life for us all.
The economy is sound and secure under the PN. Changing course now could be lethal, as lethal as those gas tanks close to the people who could be risking their lives. Voting PN is a vote for substance, a vote for a better future.
