Malta Independent Sunday, 27 January 2013, 09:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

L’Homme de Malte by Pierre Dimech, a French author of Maltese origin, has been published in France by Atelier Folfer Editions. In this work, the author retraces his history and his roots, which converge in Malta in early 19th century when many Maltese emigrated to North Africa.

The Embassy of Malta in France hosted the launching of L’Homme de Malte on 17 January; the day the snow blanketed Paris.

The event started with a short introduction by the Ambassador of Malta to France Pierre Clive Agius who commended Mr Dimech for his evident love for Malta, which compelled him to confess his sense of belonging to our country.

An emotional Mr Dimech shared his Maltese experiences, of his first ever visit to Malta, of his visit to his ancestors’ house, which still stands in Floriana, and of his childhood in Algeria. The ambition of Mr Dimech is to publish his work in Maltese as well as in English to make it more accessible.

The book is available in France but will be eventually available in Malta.
