The speech delivered by Lawrence Gonzi to GonziPN’s first mass-meeting can be described in one word: ‘despicable’! Resorting to such insulting phrases as: “One is ashamed to be with Labour” proves yet again that this man is only bent on sowing more political division and hatred towards all those who are supporting his political adversary, Joseph Muscat, among whom one finds thousands of former voters who voted for GonziPN in 2008 ! Shame on you, Lawrence!

What was more important in Dr Gonzi’s speech was not what he did say, but what he completely left out of his speech. The most important topics about which people and the media have been talking these last few days was the story about the pipeline which ENI had offered to build free of charge to Malta, but which was refused by GonziPN when Dr Austin Gatt took over responsibility for Enemalta; the corruption bombshell that rocked GonziPN last Sunday and Standard & Poor’s downgrading, which proves that Lawrence Gonzi’s boasting of “sound finances” is another myth created by GonziPN to hide the reality!

Not one word was said by Lawrence Gonzi about what are three extremely important issues, since they have a direct effect on the country’s economy and people’s lives!

Listening to the speeches of both leaders, any unbiased voter could have easily seen that while Dr Gonzi continues to believe in the old way of trying to scare voters away from his political opponents – such as by going so far as to warn his supporters and the Maltese people that the PL’s plan could result in “exploding the power station”, Dr Muscat’s speech concentrated mainly on urging unity in the country since Malta, being such a small country, cannot afford to remain divided!

Who then should voters trust on 9 March? The one who continues to sow division or the one who wants to promote and work for unity? My choice is the latter, not the former. Yours should be too.
