BOVs Staff donate leave to colleagues

Malta Independent Monday, 28 January 2013, 17:30 Last update: about 13 years ago

Bank of Valletta staff have donated over 3,000 hours of accrued vacation leave to help fellow staff members who may have exhausted their sick leave or vacation leave due to illness or other adverse circumstances.

“Staff solidarity towards work colleagues and friends has always been one of our major strengths at Bank of Valletta.  The leave pool is a tangible opportunity for all of us to work as a team, contributing any unused vacation leave to help those who are facing difficult circumstances,” BOV Chief Officer, Human Resources Joseph M. Camilleri explained.

It is the Bank’s policy not to carry forward any vacation leave balances to the following year. This pool gives staff members the chance to give away any leave they either do not require or would like to generously donate. This leave can then be used by other colleagues facing difficult medical situations.

This unique scheme was formally introduced this year as the latest in a series of initiatives offered by the Bank.  It ensures that its staff members’ wellbeing is supported and aims to help retain the all-important work/life balance.
