Barocco Foundation is very proud to announce a series of concerts, which are to be held at the exclusive and stately 18th Century Villa Bologna in Attard. The first thrilling concert Operatic Elegance, will be held on Wednesday, 20th of February at 8pm.

The stately home of the de Traffords is a heritage site with strong links to Malta’s history, as Villa Bologna has been the home of many prominent Maltese personalities, most notably Lord Strickland who was Prime Minister of Malta in early part of the 20th century and his daughter Mabel Strickland who ran The Times of Malta. Villa Bologna will open its doors to the public who will savor the grandeur and charm of the Villa, one of the last bastions of a fleeting world of elegance, sophistication and affluence.

Operatic Elegance is going to present three well-known performers in the Maltese classic music scene: soprano Marita Bezzina, tenor Joseph Aquilina and pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa.

The concert will be a celebration of the elegant world of opera as the programme will focus on an eclectic repertoire of operatic arias. The programme will include arias from the operas of Puccini’s Tosca, Giordano’s Fedora, Donizetti’s Elizir d’ Amour and Boito’s Mefistofele. The programme will also highlight arias by the composer W.A. Mozart, namely from his famous opera Le Nozze di Figaro; and from Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi as well as an excerpt from the English composer, Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. The programme will also feature two duets from Verdi’s La Traviata.

Her Excellency Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley, the USA Ambassador for Malta, will be special guest of honour. Guests will be welcome with an excellent glass of Marsovin wine!

The concert is being organized by Barocco Foundation with the kind support of Elmo Insurance, Marsovin Wine and Olimpus Music.
