Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat announced the PL was today approached by the universities consortium for students studying abroad INTO, which is very interested in building a campus in Malta.
This would create pluralism and choice in education, Dr Muscat said, while speaking during the One programme Fis-Sustanza, transmitted from Hamrun.
The consortium is looking into the possibility of having a campus in Malta and possibly one in Gozo where courses related to medicine can be given in relation with the Gozo General Hospital after an upgrade.
Dr Muscat said this will also bring several foreign students to the island and will give our education system a global perspective.
This is not the only consortium interested in investing and the PL would be discussing the different possibilities with all interested parties, he added. The idea is also to have one of the campuses of the Polytechnic in the Mediterranean, in Malta.
Dr Muscat reiterated the PL has been positive since the beginning of the campaign and will remain so till the end.
Statistics published today show that unemployment has increased for the 11th consecutive month. This is the reality and is not changed by the fact the Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi keeps repeating the government created 20,000 jobs over the past five years.
If elected to government the PL will get the economy back on its feet and create employment.
Deputy Leader Louis Grech said by 2020, according to projections for economic growth, 192,000 jobs will be created by the PL in government. Among the changes the PL wants to bring about is to public broadcasting and the auditor general’s role.
“Louis and I entered local politics because we want to change it once and for all,” Dr Muscat said.
He also announced plans for an animal cemetery and an animal welfare commissioner.
The idea behind his movement is not simply to win the next election but raising a white and red flag. If elected, the PL will be there for five full years to live with people.
