Fire at Zammit Clapp Home for the elderly

Malta Independent Thursday, 7 March 2013, 08:27 Last update: about 14 years ago

I would like to say a very big well done and thank you to all the staff at Zammit Clapp not only for their daily care and dedication towards all the Residents under their care but especially for  Tuesday 26 Febraury - when a fire broke out at the Home.

I am more than sure that each and every one of them went beyond the call of duty. There was no panic or chaos and apart from some beds in the corridors, which they had to bring down from the third floor where the fire broke out in the Laundry Room, everything was business as usual. Even the meals though a little later than usual which was to be expected on such an occasion weren't just sandwiches as one would have expected.

Thank you also to everyone else who helped evacuate some of the Residents to the floors below or to other Homes, the Civil Protection Department,  ambulance and staff from Mater Dei Hospital and St. James Hospital and everyone who in some way or other helped to keep everything running smoothly.

Of course you can't please everyone so I'm sure that a few had some complaints to make as I heard them myself but I honestly feel that they were unjust as everyone involved did more than their best.

On behalf of my mother and I'm sure nearly all the other Residents and their families I would once again like to thank you all and may God bless you.
