Fire at Zammit Clapp Home for the Elderly

Malta Independent Sunday, 10 March 2013, 09:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

I would like to say a very big thank you and well done to the staff at Zammit Clapp for their daily care and dedication to all residents in their care and especially for Tuesday 26 February when a fire broke out at the Home.

I am more than sure that each and every one of them went beyond the call of duty. There was no panic or chaos, and apart from some beds in the corridors, which they had to bring down from the third floor where the fire broke out in the Laundry Room, everything was business as usual. Even the meals, though served a little later than usual, which was to be expected on such an occasion, weren't just sandwiches as one would have expected.

Thank you also to everyone else who helped evacuate some of the residents to the floors below or to other Homes, the Civil Protection Department, ambulance and staff from Mater Dei Hospital and St James Hospital and everyone who in some way or other helped to keep everything running smoothly.

Of course you can't please everyone and a few had some complaints to make, as I heard them myself but I honestly feel that they were unjust as everyone involved did more than their best.

On behalf of my mother, and I'm sure nearly all the other residents and their families, I would once again like to thank you all and may God bless you.
