World number one Mark Selby defeated qualifier Matthew Selt 10-4 in the first round of the World Championship at the Crucible.
Selby is looking to become only the fourth player to win the UK, Masters and world titles in the same campaign.
The Leicester man surged 5-0 ahead, before Selt took three frames in a row.
But three of his own got Selby back on track, and a break of 91 in the 14th frame booked him a second-round meeting with Kent's Barry Hawkins.
Meanwhile, Stuart Bingham took a commanding 8-1 leader over Sam Baird, the lowest ranked player in this seasons competition.
Judd Trump picked up where he left off on Tuesday to beat Dominic Dale and reach the second round of the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield.
The 23-year-old Englishman converted his 6-3 overnight lead into a 10-5 victory, firing in breaks of 104, 73 and 61 along the way.
Trump will next face Marco Fu in the last 16.
Ding Junhui beat Alan McManus 10-5 in the other match played this morning.
