The Malta Tourism Authority recently sent 31 successful participants on a seven-day study visit to Scotland. This international field visit forms part of the Advance Management Training Programme, which is co-financed through the European Social Fund.

During their time in Scotland the participants visited various tourism establishments including the Crieff Hydro hotel, Visit Scotland and the New Lanark Mill, a World Heritage Site. The visits consisted of various presentations on marketing management and product development.

This week a second group of 39 participants will be visiting various places of interest in Rome to experience different management and marketing practices. Various topical tourism trends will be discussed with stakeholders including Marco Bruschini, general manager of ENIT, the National Tourism Agency of Italy and Luciano Gagliano, director Public Relations of the Vatican Museum.

During the three-year period of Advance, over 1,000 persons were awarded a Diploma in Management at level five of the Malta and European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning while 200 of these graduates participated on an international field visit.

Following the success of this programme the MTA will continue to explore different opportunities to organise human resource development programmes for the benefit of our tourism industry.
