Malta Independent Monday, 29 April 2013, 16:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Three Maltese motorcyclists will be undertaking an arduous challenge of driving their motorcycles from Malta to North Cape, Norway in 31 days, in aid of ‘All the Way Up for Charity 2013’. This was announced by ITS lecturer and participant, Alfred Bugeja during the launch of the charity event, which was held at ITS.

Mr Bugeja added that together with the other two motorcyclists, Joe Vella and Dr. Philip Chircop, he “will begin the journey by departing from Malta on 14th July 2013 and hopefully we will back on the 15th August 2013. We will ride our motorcycles through Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Belgium, France, Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway, which will take us 31 days and about 15,000 kilometers. We will have no back-up team or support vehicles – it will just be the three of us, our motorcycles, and our tent. We know it’s not easy but we have people’s support and we will do it because it’s for a good cause”.

A good number of motorcycle clubs in countries the trio will be travelling through, have shown great interest and will be helping the motorcyclists along their journey.   The bikers intend to make stops to meet up with these clubs, which will be providing full coverage through their local news agencies as well as donating money directly to the charity run.

Throughout the course of the journey, Josef Abela, Ivan Bartolo and Mario Mifsud from Motordrome will be taking care of keeping the public updated via the ‘All the Way Up for Charity’ Facebook page.

Various groups and organizations have already committed themselves to lending a helping hand for this event, including ITS, Eurofreight Ltd., MaltaBikes Ltd., St. James Hospital, Agency Support, Joe Vella Co Ltd., Link 2000, Valletta Grand Prix, Eurostar Ltd., Say It Malta, Kawa Riders, Perry Garage and Moto Guzzi Club Malta, and World Club. The riding event is being financed solely by the riders themselves, for the whole return journey.

The public is invited to support this charity event and donations can be made directly to the BOV account 4002 1300 998/IBAN MT28 VALL 2201 3000 0000 4002 1300 998 set up purposely for this challenging event.
