Newark School won the “Catch the Drop” Poster Competition with its entry Every Little Helps. The “Catch the Drop” Campaign is a national environmental and educational campaign for sustainable water in Malta.
To raise awareness about this important development, 460 primary and secondary school students from 13 schools gathered in front of St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta bearing signs and slogans promoting sustainable use of water. The group then paraded through Valletta en
route to Upper Barrakka Gardens.
''The Catch the Drop Campaign offers a strategic path towards sustainable water conservation in Malta. HSBC is funding the campaign. The HSBC Group funding will breathe new life and energy into the initiative and contribute towards its strength implementation over the next three years" said Francis Sullivan, Regional Head of Corporate Sustainability Europe and Advisor on the Environment.
For this occasion a song was composed by two of the teachers at Newark School. The lyrics were written by Junior 6 teacher Tania Pintley while the music was composed by Alessandro Guintini.
Rosanne Galea, Principal of Newark School, said that “these initiatives are a great way to teach children about the environment and particularly about the use of water which is a scarce resource. The children and teachers had given their 100% to the poster competition and it was a great satisfaction to win the prize”.
The prize was presented by Minister Konrad Mizzi during the presentation ceremony at the Barrakka gardens to the children who participated.
