Ways to celebrate Mother's Day

Malta Independent Monday, 6 May 2013, 18:53 Last update: about 11 years ago

Mother's Day is a time of recognising how special Mum is and making it a wonderful day for her. This year, Mother's Day will be celebrated on Sunday, May 12. It is a time for saying "I Love You", and there's so many ways you can do that - a breakfast in bed somewhere special like the Phoenicia, flowers, cards, a classic international buffet-style lunch in a great restaurant such as the Phoenix, or for a family gathering enjoying afternoon tea in the Palm Court. You can give your Mum the day off and make her day extra-special in your own way. Famous for its 70 year plus heritage as Malta's leading 5 star hotel, and its discreet connection to royalty, stars and VIP's, Phoenicia is the perfect place to spend Mother's Day being pampered.

Bring Mum and the family for an enjoyable celebration meal with live music, and plenty of room to take a stroll in 7.5 acres of exotic gardens. Phoenicia's famous 5-star International Buffett prepared by Executive Chef Saul Halevi is an incredible buffet that offers an abundance of all your favourite foods, from tasty starters and satisfying main dishes to mouthwatering desserts. This delicious buffet style luncheon is being prepared by the award-winning brigade of chefs and includes over 50 different plate choices with an unrivaled selection of succulent fare, starters, soup station, pasta station, carvery, main course buffet with abundant meat and fish dishes, and the amazing desserts section. Amongst the most popular dishes are the duo of salmon and black olive crusted sea bass with pink pepper, duck legs braised in soya and honey, slow roasted tenderloin of beef with sundried tomato crust, not to mention every conceivable dessert with strawberries and chocolate featuring prominently. All adults are welcomed with a complimentary drink on arrival and a surprise gift for all Mums! What's even nicer is that children under 6 eat for free while those under 12 are half-price.

Executive Chef Halevi says he is very excited to be preparing a memorable Mother's Day International Buffet at the Phoenicia, “Among the best reasons to come and experience what we now offer is the fresh local bounty, some of which is grown in our very own kitchen and herb garden that we showcase in virtually every menu item. The culinary team are hard-at-work preparing to reward Malta's Mums with a subtle range of flavour sensations, tastes and textures. "

Palm Court Lounge has a relaxing afternoon tea indulgence served from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, packed with special Mother's Day treats and irresistible pastries. The Palm Court Lounge’s afternoon tea and champagne menu offers a selection of classic afternoon tea favourites. Fine treats including classic cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches, scones, lemon cake and chocolate éclairs are complemented beautifully by a wide range of Le Via del Te  leaf teas from Firenze and Illy Coffee prepared to your taste. Soak-up the ambiance with a colourful flower shop. Mum will love it.

Opened in 1947, Phoenicia Hotel was Malta’s first five-star hotel, giving it a wealth of history and a unique charm standing proudly within the Valletta bastions. Most of the 128 bedrooms and 8 suites at Phoenicia have stunning panoramic views over the sea, are painstakingly designed, luxuriously comfortable and the perfect place to give Mum a nice treat to really show her that you love her. Mums keep these kind of memories in their hearts forever.
