Charles Cutajar, 50 from Cospicua was acquitted on five counts of robbing a number of items from vehicles in June 2008. He was also acquitted of relapsing.

The thefts had occurred in Zejtun, Fgura and Vittoriosa in which speakers, perfume, stereos, radios and computer parts were stolen.

Car owners had made reports to the police about the robberies and also stated that they found their cars with a number of scratches and damage.

The Police had arrested Charles Cutajar and his friend Leandross Cutajar while they were going for methadone, as both of them had a drug problem.

Charles Cutajar, known as “Patatu” denied that he had robbed five cars on the night between June 15 and 16, and said that he was asleep at the time of the alleged thefts.

Meanwhile the police had found a number of items in the luggage booth of Charles Cutajar’s car.

But when testifying Leandros Cutajar said that he took Charles Cutajar’s car during the night and decided to run a spree of robbing cars, because he wanted money for drugs.

He even stated that Charles Cutajar was asleep when he went on a robbing spree.

Leandross was found guilty by another Magistrate for the thefts in question.

Meanwhile Magistrate Audrey Demicoli said that the police should be more careful in their forensic evidence, and immediately acquitted Charles Cutajar.
