An injury-time goal from Ivanovic gave Chelsea a 2-1 win over Benfica to give the Londoners victory in the Europa League final, enabling them to become the first club to hold the Champions League and Europa League titles at the same time.

Chelsea were crowned European champions last year, and will retain that title until it goes to either Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund on 25 May.

Benfica lost their seventh European final in a row, and have not won a European trophy since their triumph in the Champions Cup in 1962.

They had the better start and were certainly more organised, but they lacked the finishing touches which could have proven deadly against the shaky Chelsea defence.

But the Londoners held on and took the lead on the hour when Torres skipped past defender Luizao and goalkeeper Artur to slot into an empty net.

But Chelsea’s joy was shortlived as eight minutes later Cardozo beat Cech from the penalty spot.

The match seemed heading for extra-time when Ivanovic rose high on a corner to lob over the Portugues goalkeeper to give Chelsea victory.
