Gozo left out of Heritage Malta board

Malta Independent Thursday, 16 May 2013, 10:41 Last update: about 12 years ago

No Gozitan has been appointed on the Heritage Malta board as nominated by parliamentary secretary Jose Herrera on Wednesday.

All the seven members who now sit on the board are Maltese, unlike what happened under previous administrations when one member was Gozitan, nominated by the Gozo Ministry.

Sources told The Malta Independent that this happened either because the government is unaware that the Heritage Malta Act specifies the appointment of a board member by the Gozo Ministry, or else the Gozo Ministry appointed a Maltese as its representative.

Whichever it is, the government has left Gozo out of the Heritage Malta board, the sources said.

The Heritage Malta Act specifies that the agency “shall be governed by a Board of Directors consisting of not less than five and not more than nine members, one of whom shall be the Chairperson, another the Deputy Chairperson, and a member nominated by the Minister responsible for Gozo.”

The board is made up of Joe Buttigieg as chairman, with Prof. Joanne Cassar, Tony Degiovanni, Dr Peter Muscat, Dr Gerald Montanaro Gauci, Prof. Anthony Zammit as members and Andrea Bartolo as secretary.
