Feast in honour of Our Lady of the Lily in Mqabba

Malta Independent Sunday, 26 May 2013, 09:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Feast of Our Lady of the Lily in Mqabba will be celebrated between 7 and 16 June this year, together with another important event – the 20th anniversary of the founding of our Musical Society’s youth section.

All the various sections that contribute to the celebrations of the feast have worked hard in order that this year’s event will be as successful as previous ones. The Band Commission is preparing for its annual concert, which will be held on Tuesday, 11 June on the artistic bandstand and the Decorations Group has also worked hard in order to continue enhancing the main square with artistic decorations.

After a year full of activities, the youth section will be decorating the streets of the village. The climax of their efforts will be reached during the Friday band march on 14 June. In order to mark this special anniversary, the youth section has been working on a large-scale project that will be unveiled on Saturday, 8 June on the Mqabba bypass. The fireworks section will also be giving its input for the feast with aerial and ground displays during the whole week and the highlight will surely be on the eve of the feast, Saturday, 15 June, with the pyro-musical display Danza Del Fuego followed by a grand ground fireworks display.

The Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception will take care of the devotional aspect of the feast by organising the removal of the statue of Our Lady of the Lily from its niche in the church and organising the procession. Members of the confraternity will also be responsible for decorating the church for the occasion.

Everything indicates that we will have another notable and enjoyable feast. May the occasion fill us with heavenly blessings and reach its principle aim of giving praise to Our Lady of the Lily, conceived without sin.
