Digital Arts degree exhibition

Malta Independent Friday, 31 May 2013, 14:38 Last update: about 11 years ago

An exhibition of the first group of graduate students of the MFA in Digital Arts is being organised by the Department of Digital Arts of the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences, University of Malta.

The exhibition is the culmination of eighteen months of intensive research and production and will be open at the University Valletta Campus (Merchants Street Entrance) daily between 1 and 14 June from 4pm to 7pm.

This year’s participating artists are: Mario Abela, Stanley Agius, Alexia Baldacchino, Matthew Mamo, James Moffett, Justine Navarro, Janet Savage, Shirley Spiteri Mintoff and Darren Tanti.
Visitors will be able to experience work which recognizes the conceptual and technical transformation now occurring in the visual arts, and which redefines the intersection between Art and Media through hybridized interventions in video, documentary, installation, painting, design, sound and interactive practices.

These outcomes not only recognize the potential of emerging technologies to give rise to new processes that pose new creative and conceptual challenges, but also present the same technologies as a cultural construct capable of being altered, enhanced or challenged by artists.
The MFA in Digital Arts is a practice-oriented, interdisciplinary programme that seeks to develop a learning environment in which historical traditions and new practices confront and influence each other within a contextual, cultural and theoretical framework.

The curriculum is grounded in a visual arts tradition, is informed by a rigorous study of the history and theory of modern and contemporary art, and is enriched by opportunities to work in an interdisciplinary fashion with other departments on campus.
