The Chairman and CEO of MAPFRE, Antonio Huertas recently visited Malta.
Accompanied by Mr Javier Fernandez-Cid, Chairman of Mapfre Internacional and a member of the Middlesea Insurance board of directors, the MAPFRE Chairman and CEO visited Middle Sea House in Floriana where he shared MAPFRE’s business philosophy and strategy with senior executives of Middlesea Insurance, which forms part of the MAPFRE Group, whilst getting a deeper insight on the Maltese Insurance market.
Mr Antonio Huertas also visited Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat and met with Finance Minister, Edward Scicluna and the Parliamentary Secretary for Competitiveness and Economic Growth Edward Zammit Lewis, where he discussed the role of Middlesea Insurance within the MAPFRE Group as well as their leading role within the local insurance market.
He also held a meeting with BOV Chairman, John Cassar White and CEO, Charles Borg. Bank of Valletta is the main partner of Mapfre in the Maltese operation, and currently owns 31.08% of Middlesea Insurance p.l.c. shares.
During his visit Mr Huertas also attended a MAPFRE Asistencia conference which was held in Malta and which was attended by a large number of top MAPFRE Asistencia executives from around the globe.
Antonio Huertas previously occupied the position of Third Vice Chairman and Executive Member on the Company’s Board, heading all group operations in Spain. He has held various senior executive positions in the Company, where he has spent his professional career since 1990. Among these positions are the following: Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Mapfre Praico and Mapfre Florida (2001-2004) and General Manager of Mapfre Mutualidad (2005-2006). He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law from Universidad de Salamanca.
