The government’s motto throughout the long election campaign was welcoming and refreshing – ‘Malta Taghna Lkoll’ (Malta belongs to all of us).
On Spinola Road, until a few months before the election, the general public had free access from near the Cavalieri Hotel to the Portomaso marina boulevard and the large protected open space in front of the Cavalieri, in terms of conditions imposed on the owners of Portomaso by MEPA when it issued the development permits for the project.
Then, after MEPA turned down the owners’ application to develop the large protected open space, the owners sealed off public access to this open space and the marina.
With summer now approaching, the government and MEPA should take immediate steps and order the Portomaso owners to re-open public access to the marina and the protected open space, and so make ‘Malta Taghna Lkoll’.
