San Giljan score second consecutive win

San Giljan followed up to their suc- cess over Sliema with a victory over Sirens, who were making their first ap- pearance. The Saints were always in control, and in Matthew Zammit they had an advantage over their oppo- nents. San Giljan obtained their win before the interval, when they estab- lished a five goal advantage, and then they eased off, allowing Sirens to come more into the picture, but never get- ting near enough to cause anxiety. Both sides had players under suspen- sion, with Andrea Bianchi for the Saints, and Jurgen Borg for Sirens. Sirens took first blood, through Arpad Babay, but San Giljan turned

the score around with goals from Karl Galea and Zammit. Zak Mizzi had both teams level, but the Saints went two goals in front, with a Mark Avramovic penalty, and Zammit again. In the second perio- dAvramovic and Galea took the Saints further in front, with Sirens pulling one back, with a Csaba Kiss four metre throw. The Saints pulled further away, with Peter Biros, who also wasted another penalty, Avramovic and Jean Claude Cutajar. Stephen Micallef scorede for Sirena, and at the interval the score stood at 9- 4. After the break Sirens reduced the arrears with two well-taken strikes, from Mizzi and Kiss, but Zammit and Dino Zammit restored the Saints’ lead. Kiss converted a Sirens penalty, and

Zammit took San Giljan to a 12-7 ad- vantage, before the start of the last ses- sion. David Cutajar scored for Sirens, with Zammit taking his tally to six, for the Saints. The scoring was closed with an Andrew Zarb Cousin goal for Sirens. The Saints converted two out of six man ups, and Sirens failed in five at- tempts, before scoring their last man up. San Giljan: D. In the first drawn encounter of the season, Ta Xbiex failed to follow up on their win over M’scala, and Otters overcoming a two goal deficit after the interval, to earn a point in their opening league game. The Gozitans ended the first period on a 3-2 advantage, after falling be- hind However Ta Xbiex overturned the score before the interval, even though Otters were level again at one time. Score at 5-4. Ta Xbiex then took a double lead after the br4eak, but the Gozitans then gradually came back, getting nearer in  the thir5d session, and get-

ting the only goal in the last quarter, to salvage their game. Andreas Galea and Peter Markoch scored a brace each for Ta Xbiex, whilst the Rumanian, Ionut Nec- sulescu, grabbed a poker of goals for Otters.
