A 67-year old man was jailed for 18 months by Magistrate Saviour Demicoli after he was found guilty of failing to pay back Lm23,000 (€53,576) to a number of businessmen who sold him a number of items.

Lawrence Cilia bought a number of items related to his business, but failed to pay some the debt he had. He was found guilty of receiving the goods without paying them from 13 January 2006 to 15 June 2007.

He was also found guilty of keeping the items for himself when he knew they were not of his own property. He was defended by Legal Aid lawyer Mark Busuttil. Angelo Gafa was prosecuting officer.
