Perfect start for Brazil in Confederations Cup

Malta Independent Saturday, 15 June 2013, 22:51 Last update: about 13 years ago

Hosts Brazil had the perfect start to the Confederations Cup, beating Japan with a 3-0 score in a match they dominated for long stretches.

The home side took just three minutes to score the first goal, Neymar hammering home a beauty from the edge of the area after Fred chested the ball down on a Marcelo cross.

The Brazilians remained in control although Japan tried hard to make amends, with efforts by Honda giving some trouble to experienced keeper Julio Cesar.

Brazil settled the issue just after the break, with Paulinho scoring the second goal. Jo added a third in injury time.
