The Victoria Hotel in Sliema recently organised a Baby Massage workshop, which turned out to be a great success.

Thirty mothers with their babies attended the event that was hosted in the William Shakespeare Suite, which was turned into a comfortable "baby lounge" for this special occasion.

After talking about the numerous benefits of infant massage, Armelle Azzopardi Debost, a qualified infant massage instructor, demonstrated strokes combining ancient Indian massage to modern Swedish massage and reflexology.

She explained that according to the latest research, baby massage relaxes babies, decreases evening crying, facilitates better sleep, relieves stomach-ache and colic.

“For me baby massage is more than a pleasurable experience, it is a way to build up a special bond between me and my baby, a strong bond that will last a lifetime. I believe that baby massage can help me to understand better my baby but most especially the grown up he will become one day, ” she added.

Following the success of this event, a similar event was organised last month at the Victoria Hotel and a number of sessions are earmarked for the coming months.

Ms Azzopardi Debost created Hands To Heart in 2010 to promote baby massage in Malta. She works freelance organising Baby Massage classes.
