Studying the Baroque Age

Malta Independent Monday, 17 June 2013, 11:40 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Baroque age had a profound impact on architecture, visual arts, performing arts and literature. Individuals interested in exploring the rich legacy of the Baroque can now enrol for a Master of Arts in Baroque Studies. This course is run by the International Institute for Baroque Studies.

The programme takes a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of the Baroque age, its heritage and its legacy. The academic cohort of the Institute assists students in deepening their knowledge on the political, military, religious, social, philosophical, scientific, literary, artistic, architectural and conservation aspects of the Baroque.

The course may be followed on a full-time basis (three semesters) or a part-time basis (five semesters). Prospective applicants are required to be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree at second-class level or equivalent in an area of study deemed relevant by the Board of the Institute. Applications are accepted online at www.um.edu.mt/apply.

The International Institute for Baroque Studies was founded in 1996 and has contributed extensively to the research and the dissemination of knowledge on the Baroque. It authored various publications and has recently published the highly-acclaimed Journal of Baroque Studies. It also participated in several academic conferences organised by various universities and has organised a number of international seminars in Malta.
