Transfer news: Liverpool sign Aspas, Obi Mikel could lead Chelsea exodus

Malta Independent Monday, 24 June 2013, 15:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Liverpool have signed Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas for £7m, subject to international clearance, the BBC reports.

The club agreed a deal in principle last week and were just waiting for documentation before confirming the "long-term contract".

The uncapped Spaniard, 25, scored 12 goals in 35 league games for Celta this season as they avoided relegation from La Liga on the final day.

Michael Laudrup is set for more transfer frustration with Shakhtar Donetsk keen on Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, The Mirror reports.

The Ukrainian title holders are ready to hijack Swansea's move for the 27-year-old and can offer him Champions League football.

Gomis is already the subject of an £8.5million bid from the Welsh club with rivals Cardiff also interested.

But Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas said: “Shakhtar Donetsk gave us a very nice proposal. It is possible that we could reach agreement with this club.”

Galatasaray are expected to firm up their interest in Chelsea midfielder Mikel John Obi by tabling a £10million bid for the Nigeria international.

Mikel is one of only five senior players who remain on the books at Stamford Bridge from José Mourinho’s first spell in charge at the club, but he is not seen as integral to the Portuguese’s plans.

The 26-year-old started 19 league games last season and is currently on international duty.

Obi Mikel could lead an exodus from Chelsea as Juan Mata and Fernando Torres are also seeking pastures new with the arrival of Jose Mourinho.
