Gareth Bale will tug on the heart strings of Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy in order to clinch his dream move to Real Madrid, according to reports, Metro reports.

The Welsh winger is a prime target for the Spanish giants this summer, but Spurs insist the 23-year-old is not for sale.

Madrid have already implied they will not baulk at offering a world record fee for Bale, which would put the onus on the player to force a move.

However, Spanish newspaper Marca claim the Welshman will not put any pressure on Spurs, and will instead rely on the two clubs reaching an amicable agreement after he makes his sporting case to chairman Levy.

Whether Levy will be moved by any plea remains to be seen, but it’s clear Madrid will not give up their pursuit of Bale until the end of the transfer window.

Liverpool are ready to rekindle their long-standing interest in Eljero Elia, TalkSport reports.

Brendan Rodgers has been active in the market already this summer, having sealed deals for free agent Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas.

And now he is set to turn his attention to Elia, currently at Werder Bremen.

Liverpool's interest in the Dutchman dates back to his time at Hamburg but they missed out on him when he signed for Juventus.

The move was a disaster, though, and he made just four league appearances in his only season at the club. Elia moved to Bremen in 2012 for £5m and Rodgers has tracked his progress - with a potential move now in the pipeline.

Santos have withdrawn from the race for Milan striker Robinho, believing that the salary the player is asking for is too high for the club’s coffers.

The Brazilian club could come to terms with Milan on the transfer price – somewhere in the €8 million region – but Robinho’s personal demands are deemed too high by the club which has recently sold Neymar to Barcelona.
