Manchester United are making a record-breaking £50million move for Edinson Cavani, The Mirror reports.

New United boss David Moyes wants to sign the Uruguay striker from Rafa Benitez’s Napoli.

But the Scot faces competition from Real Madrid and Chelsea. And news of the bid will raise even more question marks over Wayne Rooney’s future at Old Trafford.

Cavani’s powerful style looks ideal for the Premier League. Moyes is keen to play two men up front and Cavani would make a perfect partner for Robin van Persie, The Mirror reports. The South American – strong with an eye for goal – has similar attributes to Rooney, whose relationship with United is still strained.

Napoli are ready to cash in on Cavani, 26, and are now sitting on several mega-bids. No club has matched his £54m release clause, but he could go for slightly less. United’s owners, the Glazer family, are ready to back Moyes, who is also closing in on Barcelona’s Alcantara.

Chelsea could prove to be an obstacle for the striker as have officially entered the race for his services.

Napoli want to settle a deal in the shortest time possible and Italian media report that they have requested midfielder Ramires to be included in the deal.

Liverpool look poised to miss out on Henrikh Mkhitaryan, after the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder rubbished reports linking him to Anfield, The Daily Express reports.

Reports have been awash recently about Mkhitaryan's future, with Liverpool thought to be in the driving seat for his signature after Ian Ayre cancelled a trip to Rio de Janiero.

The Reds, who have already done some early business in the transfer window, had been told by the Ukraine giants they would have to fork up £20m for his services.

However, Mkhitaryan has poured cold water on the rumours, by making a post on his official Facebook page.

It read: "I am happy to see that people show keen interest in my career but I would like to ask all not only to refrain from making comments but also to prevent the spread of unverified and false information.

Fiorentina goalkeeper Viviano is set to move away from the club and possibly also Italy, as Spanish club Betis Sevilla are showing an interest in the former Inter keeper.

Roma and Torino are also interested in the player.

Fiorentina will announce a one-year deal with former Milan captain Ambrosini on Monday, but it is unlikely that they will manage to sign Mario Gomez from Bayern Munich.
