Transfer news: Moyes to tell Rooney to stay

Malta Independent Wednesday, 26 June 2013, 11:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

David Moyes wants Wayne Rooney to stay at Manchester United - and will try to make peace when the pair show up for pre-season training, the Mirror reports.

Moyes is not looking to sell the star he put on the road to the top at Everton and will let him know that when they finally get together.

The champions' new manager also plans to assure England ace Rooney that he has no problem with him and will try to smooth-over the row involving the now-retired Sir Alex Ferguson.

Moyes has not arranged any special face-to-face meeting with Rooney, as he is keen to avoid any drama - or possible problems.

Instead, the Scot, who only officially takes up station behind his desk at Carrington next week, plans a quiet word once training is up and running.

Newcastle United are making a £12million move for Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac, the Daily Mail reports.

The powerful 27-year-old has been described as 'a British style centre forward in the Alan Shearer mould' and is ready to make the move to St James' Park.

The France international has been a target for Everton, Fulham, Arsenal and Manchester United in the past and is well known to chief scout Graham Carr.

Newcastle had been linked with Vitesse Arnhem striker Wilfried Bony but he is the subject of an offer from Swansea and the Dutch side want up to £15million.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan appears to be trying to force through a move to Liverpool after being accused of going AWOL by his current club, the Mirror reports.

Shakhtar Donetsk are threatening to fine Mkhitaryan because, they claim, he has failed to report to their pre-season training camp in Austria.

The Armenia midfielder is said to be frustrated that his £23million switch to the Reds is being held up because Shakthtar.

He was set to fly to Merseyside last week for a medical before the problem arose, and remains keen for his move to Anfield to go through.
